Are you fascinated by the buzzing world of bees, butterflies, and other vital pollinators? Do you want to contribute to important scientific research right from your community? Then mark your calendars and get ready to become a citizen scientist!
The 4-H agent is inviting you to participate in the Great Southern Pollinator Census, and this year, we’re making it even easier and more fun with the power of Google Lens!
What is the Great Southern Pollinator Census?
It’s a fantastic opportunity for individuals like you to help scientists track pollinator populations. By observing and recording the pollinators you see, you provide valuable data that helps us understand the health of our ecosystems and how we can better protect these crucial creatures.
How can you participate?
It’s simple! We’ll be gathering to observe pollinators in action. All you need to bring is a comfortable chair and your enthusiasm. The 4-H agent will guide you through the process, and we’ll be utilizing an identification guide and Google Lens to help identify the various pollinators you encounter. No prior experience is necessary – just a willingness to learn and contribute!
Why use Google Lens?
Google Lens is a powerful tool that uses artificial intelligence to identify objects in images. During the census, you can simply point your phone’s camera at a pollinator, and Google Lens can help you quickly help you begin to identify what you’re seeing, making the identification process more efficient and engaging for everyone.
