4-H Holiday Bakeoff

The 4-H year is in full swing and the holiday season is upon us. That means that we are gearing up for our annual holiday contest, the Highlands County 4-H Holiday Bakeoff. This contest is open to all 4-H youth in Highlands County as well as their parents/guardians. The idea is that youth will get in the kitchen and learn how to prepare their favorite sweet treat from a caring adult. This is a great opportunity to pass down those secret family recipes or holiday favorites.

Guidelines

There are six different categories that you can choose to participate in. Participants may register for a maximum of one item per category in the following categories; breads, brownies/bars, minis, candy, cookies, and healthy/ healthier recipe. All entries should be festive for the holidays, but no live plant material (such as holly, poinsettia, etc.) may be used. You must submit two dozen servings, one for presentation and one for judging. Refer to your recipes serving size to determine the appropriate amount and size that you should submit. Please see the attached guidelines for a complete set of rules.

Deadlines

Today is the deadline to register for the Holiday Bakeoff. To register for the event, log on to your 4-H online profile, select the events tab, and then click to register for the Holiday Bakeoff. Food entries must be submitted to the 4-H Office between 8AM-5PM on Monday, December 6. There will be an awards ceremony on Tuesday, December 7 at 6PM in the auditorium. Participants and their families will have the opportunity to partake in holiday crafts and activities, as well as taste the different submissions and vote on their favorite item.
