What’s Your Game Plan? Habitat and Game Management Workshop

Do you own or lease land in Central Florida? Are you interested in improving your property for native wildlife or hunting? Then our upcoming What’s Your Game Plan? workshop is for you!

Led by the UF/IFAS Natural Resources Extension in Polk County, these workshops are designed to help landowners, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts learn how to manage land with a conservation mindset. Whether you want to see more turkeys and deer or simply protect native habitats, this is a great place to start!

You don’t need to be a biologist or a land management expert to join. Just bring your curiosity and questions!

What Will the Workshop Cover?

Our workshop sessions will focus on strategies you can implement on your land to promote native wildlife, with a focus on wild turkey and whitetail deer. Get ready to dive into the following topics:

  • Turkey and whitetail deer habitat requirements
  • Native plant communities and enhancement
  • Invasive plant species identification and management
  • Prescribed fire, why it matters, and when it’s most impactful
  • Balancing game species with other wildlife
  • Setting goals and making a long-term land management plan that works for you

We’ll also take the learning outside with a complimentary field experience, where participants will get a look at how habitat management strategies can be implemented in real-time!

Why Does It Matter?

Healthy habitats support healthy wildlife. Whether you’re managing large areas of native habitat or tiny pockets, improving areas that provide cover, food, and space for native wildlife is beneficial for both hunting and conservation purposes. Plus, when more landowners work toward good habitat management, it helps the whole region’s ecosystems thrive!

How to Get Involved

Participants can join us from 6pm to 8pm on July 10th or 15th for the interactive workshops. Content will be identical at each session, so pick the date that works best for your schedule! In addition, all workshop participants will receive complimentary access to a field experience, where we’ll look at how habitat management strategies can be implemented in real-time!
