Land and Sea! 6th Annual Coastal Cleanup

It’s that time of year again! SAVE THE DATE for the 6th Annual UF/IFAS Extension Coastal Cleanup!

Florida Sea Grant and UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County are teaming up with local businesses and the County government to host the 2022 International Coastal Cleanup in Hernando Beach, Florida. Thousands of volunteers worldwide can participate in this international cleanup through a location nearest them. This International Coastal Cleanup began 30 years ago when communities rallied to keep their beaches pristine. Let’s continue this tradition!

During this annual cleanup, volunteers have removed over 22,500 pieces of trash from Hernando’s coastal systems. Many of these items originate from land-based and water-based activities, and heavy rains and winds facilitate the debris pathways into our coastal systems. Throughout the year, we must work together to prevent the trash from polluting these systems and endangering wildlife.

This event is open to all ages. This is an excellent opportunity for youth to earn their volunteer hours! Participants who decide to clean our waterways must provide their own vessel. We ask that all volunteers check in at our Linda Pedersen Park station to complete paperwork and obtain collection supplies.

Yes, we will separate recycling from garbage! All trash much be returned to our Linda Pedersen location to ensure proper disposal.
