Put the Phone Down: 4-H Meetings Deserve your Full Attention

The Florida 4-H Code of Conduct states: “Use of any mobile electronic device during a scheduled 4-H activity is prohibited unless activity-specific rules otherwise allow. When permitted, they should be used only in a manner that is consistent with the approved activity and not discourteous or disruptive.”

A Good Reminder

This is a good reminder as we kick off a new 4-H year to remember that 4-H club meetings are meant to be a time of fun and learning for all. By putting our cell phones down and giving club leaders, officers, and guest speakers our full attention, we show respect for others and can participate actively and learn. Furthermore, putting your cell phone down keeps you from being a distraction from the purpose of the meeting and fosters a sense of community.

By using your cell phone during a 4-H meeting, you can miss important announcements or instructions, distract others, and appear disengaged or disrespectful. By simply silencing your phone and putting it down, you are not only following the Florida 4-H Code of Conduct, but you will also encourage members around you to be present, respectful, and engaged.
