UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension booth @ Cedar Key

Ronnie J. and Mrs. Bill B paused for photo opp with Michael H. and Martha H, 2021 Master Gardener class graduates. Hundreds of residents stopped at the hortculture booth. Some shared photos of pressed plants, thier gardens or plants they wanted to identify. Free UF/IFAS horticulture publications and handouts were available.

Extension Master Gardeners love to “talk plants.” Two shifts of Master Gardeners were on hand to discuss Florida Friendly Landscaping options and answer gardening questions during the two-day festival. No waiting!

Between conversations, we enjoyed gulf views, live music and delicious seafood. Before or after shifts, volunteers shopped craft vendors and toured the community garden at beautiful Cedar Key Island. Stop by the Nature Coast Biological Station to view restoration progress (optimal viewing at low tide).

“Recently, we embarked on a mission to improve upland management practices and redeem our seawall. Our goals were to improve habitat, reduce nutrient runoff, conserve freshwater, and increase water filtration by oysters around our property.” Savanna Barry, Regional Specialized Seagrant Agent, University of Florida
