RURAL AND FAMILY LAND PROTECTION PROGRAM SIGN UP PERIOD STARING DECEMBER 15, 2025
Sign up December 15, 2025 – January 23, 2026
The Rural and Family Lands Protection Program (RFLPP) is an agricultural land preservation program designed to protect important agricultural lands through the acquisition of permanent agricultural land conservation easements. The program is designed to protect agricultural lands (including forests) by creating easement agreements that work together with agricultural production to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and reasonable protection of natural resources without interfering with agricultural operations in such a way that could put the continued economic viability of these operations at risk.
Interested landowners can submit their application between December 15, 2025, at 8 am EST, and January 23, 2026, at 5 pm EST. For more information and to apply for the program, visit the RFLPP website here.

RECORDING OF THE DECEMBER 10 FIELDS AND FORESTS WEBINAR AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING
On Wednesday December 10, Courtney Miller and Molly Hooks with the American Forest Foundation joined us to discuss the Fields & Forests Program and its opportunities for landowners to diversify the income from their land by planting loblolly pine trees on open fields. This program provides landowners with annual income, professional forestry support, full coverage of site preparation and planting costs, and the profits from subsequent timber harvests. Access the recording of the Dec. 10 Fields & Forests Program webinar here. We have a couple more forest carbon program webinars in the works for January. We’ll keep you posted in the email updates and on the FL Land Steward events calendar.
UF/IFAS JOINS FLORIDA WILDFLOWER FOUNDATION TO FORM STATEWIDE NATIVE SEED PARTNERSHIP
The Florida Native Seed Partnership (FNSP), jointly coordinated by the Florida Wildflower Foundation (FWF) and the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) under a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), convened its newly established Steering Committee on Nov. 14, 2025. The kickoff meeting brought together invited partners from conservation, utilities, research institutions, and agriculture and land-management organizations to address Florida’s growing deficit of native seed — an issue increasingly affecting restoration and land-stewardship efforts statewide. Modeled after successful collaborations in other states, the initiative brings together universities, agencies, NGOs, seed farmers, industry leaders, and landowners to grow Florida’s native seed industry and ensure a reliable, affordable supply for restoration and conservation. Learn more about this effort in this Florida Native Seed Partnership post.
