SFRC Serves: Alexander Fisher

Welcome to our new Summer Blog Series, SFRC Serves. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are sharing stories of how our students and alumni give back to their communities.

Name:

Alexander Fisher

Program:

Ecological Restoration Graduate Certificate Program

Alexander Fisher is currently a student, Wetland Restoration Assistant, and the Conservation Committee Chair holder for the Virginia Native Plant Society. He is also in his third semester of the Ecological Restoration Graduate Certificate Program.

As the Committee’s Chairman he explains, “I write comments in support or against government proposals opened up for public comment. I also lobby for the state Division of Natural Heritage and all of their needs.” Some of his work includes speaking at educational events and providing scientific and practical knowledge about native plants and their ecological importance. He goes on to explain, “ I administer plant rescues, engage with community members to promote native plants in our urban and suburban landscapes, and most importantly I promote conserving already intact native plant communities throughout the state.”
