The Mid-Florida Research and Education Center at UF/IFAS is seeking a highly motivated Biological Scientist to support a growing specialty crop breeding and genetics research program. The position will contribute to research aimed at developing improved cultivars with enhanced quality, disease resistance, stress tolerance, and environmental adaptation.
The Biological Scientist will work closely with the faculty PI, graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and collaborators to conduct and coordinate plant breeding, genetics, phenotyping, molecular biology, and controlled-environment research activities. The position provides an opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary program integrating conventional breeding with quantitative genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and data-driven breeding approaches.

In this role, you will lead UF/IFAS Extension EFNEP in Orange County, supervising, training, and supporting a team of paraprofessional Nutrition Educators who deliver research-based nutrition education in community settings. You will build relationships with community partners, recruit program sites, and promote EFNEP throughout the county.
You will oversee the county’s annual program plan and program operations, monitor progress toward program goals, maintain accurate records, and complete required reports. You will work closely with the County Extension Director and statewide EFNEP team to ensure program quality and compliance with UF and grant requirements. You will also participate in Extension meetings, advisory and community activities, EFNEP trainings, and ongoing professional development.
