Academic Advisor II – Plant Science Major (PLS)

The Academic Advisor II provides high quality, comprehensive academic advising for the undergraduate Plant Science Major (PLS) and affiliated departmental minors. Other primary roles include marketing for PLS and recruiting undergraduate students, and administrative duties to support the program. PLS is an innovative major that bridges three core collaborating departments (Agronomy, Horticultural Sciences, and Plant Pathology) and presents an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a growing team of passionate students, faculty, and administrators from a range of plant-related disciplines.

Responsibilities include: Advise students on course selection, requirements for degree completion, and preparing for post-college goals and career plans; Manage student registration, enrollment, and petitions; Develop and implement new advising practices and tools; Recruit for PLS at UF, State College transfer events, industry events, and additional appropriate venues both on and off campus; Monitor and track course offerings across the network of PLS core departments and affiliates; Work with the PLS Steering Committee to assess trends in student success and prepare program reports and collateral materials; Manage, securely maintain, and communicate data and information for effective operation of the program; Conduct outreach efforts for high visibility of the program to a variety of audiences; Assist with department internship and scholarship programs; Plan and/or support recruitment and retention events for student engagement; Advise students across all statewide program locations, including Gainesville, West Florida Research and Education Center (WFREC), Mid-Florida Research and Education Center (MREC), and the Ft. Lauderdale Research and Education Center (FLREC).

 

Agricultural Assistant I – UF/IFAS Blueberry Breeding Program

The position will be responsible for fieldwork associated with the maintenance of the UFBBP germplasm collection at the Plant Science Research and Education Unit (PSREU) in Citra, FL. Duties include assisting the Field Agricultural Scientist with the maintenance and repair of the irrigation infrastructure of the UFBBP plant plots; monitoring pest and disease presence within the UFBBP germplasm collection and maintaining miscellaneous equipment used in the care of the germplasm collection.
