Sheep and goat producers across Florida and the Southeast are encouraged to attend the 5th Annual UF/IFAS Small Ruminant Short Course. This event brings together producers, Extension professionals, researchers, veterinarians, students, and allied industry partners for two days of learning, networking, and hands-on demonstrations.
Hosted through a collaboration with UF/IFAS Extension, the UF College of Veterinary Medicine, the UF/IFAS Department of Animal Sciences, and the UF/IFAS Agronomy Department, the short course provides attendees with direct access to some of the region’s leading experts in sheep and goat production.
The short course offers educational tracks for both beginning and advanced producers. Topics include parasite control, nutrition, forage management, genetics, breeding systems, , disease prevention, marketing, and more. Participants can also take advantage of optional FAMACHA training, Extension demonstrations, industry exhibits, and networking opport
unities. The 2026 program features presentations from nationally recognized specialists and industry professionals covering topics that directly impact producer profitability and animal performance.
One of the highlights of the event is the UF Ram Test and UF Buck Test and Sale. These performance-testing programs evaluate rams and bucks under standardized environmental conditions, helping producers identify genetics with desirable traits , including growth performance, adaptability, and parasite resistance.
