RED SNAPPER

The NOAA Fisheries and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council plan to develop an environmental impact statement that will outline management alternatives to Amendment 28 of the Fishery Management Plan for the Reef Fish Resources in the Gulf of Mexico. The current allocation for red snapper is 51% commercial and 49% recreational. The Council is considering changes in these allocations that increase the benefits from red snapper fishing and increase the stability of the red snapper component of this fishery; particularly in the recreational sector.
