Starting a community garden or taking over the reins of an existing one is no easy task. But if you live in Duval County, Florida, and you would like some help figuring out how to go about it, apply now for our second Community Garden Leader Class. The class meets weekly on Monday evenings from April 7-May 19, 2025. We meet at the UF IFAS Extension Duval County Main Office located at 1010 N. McDuff Avenue. During those classes we have presentations on things you need to know and do, question and answer sessions with experienced community gardeners, and field trips to existing community gardens. You’ll learn the basics of starting, budgeting, funding, managing and maintaining a community garden.
During each week class participants will be able to access additional readings and training materials in Canvas, an online learning platform. These materials allow you to apply what you learn in class to your own community garden endeavor. By completing weekly assignments, you’ll finish the class with a binder full of plans, worksheets and budget materials for your own garden.
Finally, we will match participants with an experienced Master Gardener Volunteer or community gardener mentor. Having a mentor allows you to ask questions during and after the class as challenges arise. And it gives you another resource to learn from as you grow your garden.
The fee for this 7-week class is $50. Limited scholarships are available, and space is limited. Apply now online! The application deadline is Friday, February 28, 2025. Scan the QR Code below to apply.
