Florida-Friendly Green Industries BMP Certificate
Educational Program with a focus on fertilizer and water
The Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) educational program helps green industry employees understand how fertilizer affects water quality. This Florida-Friendly program was developed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), UF/IFAS, industry representatives, and others. Commercial lawn-care and landscape industry professionals learn science-based practices such as proper fertilizer use to reduce risk of water pollution.
Columbia County requires by law that everyone who applies fertilizer commercially for clients must attend this 6-hour training and receive a certificate. Also, Institutional applicators must receive this training and certification.
Institutional applicators include anyone (whether owner, manager, employee) who applies fertilizer to:
- public lands
- religious institutions
- industrial sites
- business sites
- properties such as condominium complexes
- Everyone in Columbia County holding this Certificate is listed at http://ffl.ifas.ufl.edu/professionals/certification_lists/cert_county_name.shtml
