Members of the SWFL Small Farmers Network leadership team recently attended the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) 111th Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference, held July 8–12, 2026, in Denver, Colorado.

Representing the network were Chair Luis Rodriguez, Allie Williams, David Outerbridge, Jennifer Hagen, Kendall Gill, and Jessica Ryals. The conference brought together Extension professionals from across the United States to share innovative programming, strengthen partnerships, and learn about the latest developments in agriculture.

During the conference, the team celebrated a significant achievement as the SWFL Small Farmers Network was recognized as a National Finalist in NACAA’s Search for Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture. This national recognition highlights the network’s collaborative work to support small farmers through educational programming, networking opportunities, and practical resources that strengthen sustainable agriculture in Southwest Florida.

Luis Rodriguez also presented on the Small Farm Start-Up School, a collaborative state-wide school offered and organized by the UF/IFAS Small Farms & Alternative Enterprises Program. The school started within the SWFL Small Farmers Network with agent Dr. Rod Greder, and has now expanded into a state-wide program where small farmers across the state can take advantage of resources and education on starting and expanding their farm.

The conference also provided valuable opportunities to network with Extension colleagues from across the country, discover new educational approaches, and bring fresh ideas back to Florida. The knowledge and connections gained will help enhance future workshops, field days, and networking events for the region’s agricultural community.
