UF/IFAS Gulf Coast REC Launches Inaugural Graduate Student Research Day

As a way to include UF/IFAS College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in research presentations affiliated with the University of Florida, the Gulf Coast Postdoc and Student Association (GCPSA) organized an inaugural Graduate Student Research Day held April 4. The organization is comprised of students and postdocs located at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma, Florida.

As part of the day’s activities, students presented posters to postdoc judges and visitors. Awards were presented to the highest-scoring Ph.D. student and master’s student in addition to a People’s Choice “crowd favorite” award.

Grad Student Research Day Welcome RemarksThe event provided a supportive setting for students to practice their presentations skills and for postdocs to try their hand at judging. Open to all graduate students located outside of Gainesville at various UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers across the state, the event provided an avenue for networking and collaboration.

With 24 presenters and 12 judges from five UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers (Gulf Coast, Lake Alfred, Quincy and Immokalee), the event provided a valuable learning experience. GCPSA plans to host the event again next year. CALS students and postdocs stationed at UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers should stay tuned in early 2020 for next year’s event details.
