COVID-19 led to major disruptions in 4-H programs. Broward 4-H has been leading garden programs at Cambridge Square Lauderdale Lakes Apartments since fall 2018. Thanks to a gift from Glick Philanthropies, 4-H was able to keep the gardening growing!
Improved community garden
Broward 4-H transformed the existing herb garden into a food forest! We installed bananas, turmeric, pineapples, red malabar spinach, and more into four raised beds. Due to health concerns, YouTube videos were created to share with residents about their garden. Residents are thrilled to have plants to tend, eat, and admire – especially when getting outside is a healthy option!
Garden kits
Residents also received their own garden kits to grow herbs at home! These kits were dropped off at doorsteps and social distancing was maintained. With these kits, residents can not only add to dishes but enjoy the mental benefits of growing plants. Kits were packaged with help from Made In Broward and included links to a club website to continue virtual learning!
