#Oyster Reef Restoration

This week, we will bring new restoration and evaluation techniques from University of Florida – IFAS aquaculture researchers and experts to Bay County. Oyster reefs create living ecosystems that are critical to estuary habitats. These reefs also serve to address shoreline erosion and improve wayer quality by filtering sediments and algae.

Pictured are barrels of oysters at the Coastal Restoration Nursery (Florida Department of Environmental Protection Ecosystem Restoration Section) located in Pensacola. Mounds of shells abound, waiting to serve the coastal ecosystems through oyster reef restoration.
