The University of Florida/IFAS Extension and Pasco County seek to fill a full-time, permanent status-accruing agriculture extension agent position with livestock specialty. This multicounty position is based in Pasco County with some extension programs also covering Sumter, Hernando, and Citrus counties.
Responsibilities:
- Planning, developing, implementing, teaching, evaluating, and reporting on extension programs in livestock (cattle, small ruminants, equine), forage and hay production, pasture management, pesticide training, and small farms (95%)
- Active participation in the 4-H Youth Development program is also expected (5%), to include but not limited to preparing youth to show animals, summer day camps, and/or school enrichment
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, Agronomy, or a closely related field is required
- Candidates hired with a Bachelor’s degree are required to make significant progress toward obtaining a Master’s degree within six years of employment.
- Master’s degree is preferred
- Experience with livestock and/or small farms is preferred
- Experience in teaching, writing, and developing educational programs is preferred
- Established residency in Pasco County is preferred, as it is expected that the agent will become a part of community life
