New Cultivar Released from the University of Florida Agronomy Department

FAES1307 is a new zoysiagrass released from the University of Florida Agronomy Department. FAES1307 is the result of a hybrid cross made in 2008 between Zoysia japonica and Zoysia matrella. It has a medium leaf texture, good drought tolerance, improved shade tolerance, high sod-tensile strength, and to-date, has shown better resistance to large patch compared to existing commercial cultivars. FAES1307 holds color through the winter months better than existing commercial cultivars used in Florida. Multi-state testing indicates that FAES1307 is adapted for use from southern California through the southeastern U.S. It is not adapted to cooler regions such as the Midwest. Foundation stock is currently being increased with three sod producers. Commercialization of FAES1307 could occur in late 2019 with sod sales beginning in late 2020 or 2021.
