NATA hosts S-131/215 in June; S-130/190 registration now full

The Natural Areas Training Academy (NATA) hosted two fire trainings at the Doyle Conner Building in Gainesville this June. Participants travelled from all over the state, representing many agencies, organizations, and entities! These workshops are both suggested National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) courses and are helpful in furthering a wildland firefighter’s career. Participants repeatedly say the best part of the trainings are the experienced, engaging, and knowledgeable instructors…and we have to say that we wholeheartedly agree!

S-131 fire training

Firefighter Type I (1 day in-person workshop ) covers position responsibilities and operational leadership, fireline reference materials, tactical decision making, and communications. Participants formed small groups and worked on several activities designed to be interactive in nature as well as facilitate learning, while encouraging class discussion. An added bonus: Participants were given brand-new IRPGs! Interested in taking S-131? Fire Operations in the Wildland/Urban Interface (2-day in-person fire training) was held the day after S-131 in the same location. This course covers firefighter safety in the interface, managing human factors, pre incident planning, sizeup and initial strategy, structure triage, structure protection, tactics in the interface, and action assessment. Designed to assist structure and wildland firefighters who will be making tactical decisions in the wildland/urban interface, this course features hypothetical scenarios that participants work together on in small groups to facilitate learning the material. IRPGs were given to participants at this training as well. Wanting to learn more about S-215? Join our listserv, visit our calendar, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter! We post regularly regarding upcoming workshops.
