Tropical Connections in ESPOL

Promotion of the Elsevier Tropical Connections Fellowship program brought the program director, Dr. Max Teplitski, to ESPOL, Ecuador’s premier state university. In Ecuador, just as in the US, female students make up the majority in undergraduate and graduate classrooms. However, women are under-represented in faculty and leadership positions. We have met with the vice-rector of ESPOL, Cecilia Paredes and the Dean of Research, Julie Nietes to discuss how we can leverage ESPOL’s resources and the Elsevier grant to inaugurate a professional development program at ESPOL. Meanwhile, we look forward to working with the next cohort of fellows.
