Gator Giving Day: Support Our Programs

AUSTIN CARY FOREST SAWMILL PROJECT

Help relocate and rebuild the historic Sawmill at Austin Cary Forest! Built in 1942 by the Works Progress Administration near the forest’s entrance to mill lumber for the educational buildings around Lake Mize, the Sawmill is a piece of Florida’s rich history. With the support of passionate alumni and supporters, we plan to relocate and rejuvenate the Sawmill as an educational display in the forest campus core–highlighting historic and modern milling processes and the continued importance of our forests.

This initiative is a part of a larger vision for the ACF campus. When finished, the campus will include a sawmill, discovery center, manager residence housing, professor-in-residence and student housing, nature center/office, and amphitheatre, in addition the existing turpentine still, cooper’s shed and haul stall. These additions will enhance the ACF’s ability to educate students and the public about the rich history of the forestry industry in Florida.

GIBSON ENDOWMENT FOR GEOMATICS

Dr. David Gibson was the founding director of the Geomatics (Surveying & Mapping) Program at the University of Florida. He remained a member of the faculty for 40 years and continued teaching until 2014, six years after his formal retirement. To honor Dr. Gibson’s legacy, former students and friends established this endowment in his memory to support the Geomatics Program he loved. Funds are used to meet the most pressing needs of the program such as student scholarship and travel awards and equipment needs.

In addition to providing general support for the daily needs of our students and program, the Gibson Endowment will be used to cover the cost of either the first exam toward professional licensure or a technician-level certification exam for all Geomatics graduates. Honor Dr. Gibson’s legacy and make an impact for current and future Geomatics students!

HYATT CHALLENGE FOR GEOMATICS

Geomatics alumni Pam and Russell Hyatt of Hyatt Survey will match all gifts to the Gibson Endowment up to $3,000.
