SFRC Hosts First Virtual Graduate Student Orientation

The 2020 SFRC Grad Gathering: A Peer-led Orientation to a Semester Like No Other was held via Zoom on Friday, August 28th from 2-5pm. Over 60 new and returning SFRC/SNRE graduate students attended and spent the afternoon getting to know each other and learning what they need to know to survive and thrive in Graduate School.

A unique feature of this graduate gathering was its orchestration BY students FOR students. Leaders from SFRC student organizations and volunteers met over the summer to design and strategize the interactive event. The SFRC Associate Director Martha Monroe as well as Graduate Coordinators Shirley Baker and Taylor Stein stopped in to welcome everyone and share helpful advice. The day ended with a Q&A session from current SFRC graduate students.

We gratefully acknowledge the planning team for their extraordinary coordination and facilitation efforts: Charles Wallace III, Chad Palmer, Derek Chamberlin, Johanna Depenthal, Lisa Chong, Mabel Baez, Scott Borsum, and Tyler Carney (with guidance from: Amy Abernethy, Jocelyn Peskin, and Wendy-Lin Bartels).

Who are we?

Where do we come from?
