SFRC Serves: Thomas Allain
Welcome to our Summer Blog Series, SFRC Serves. We are proud to share the stories of how our students and alumni give back to their communities.
Bachelor of Marine Sciences
Thomas Allain is a Marine Sciences major in the last year of his undergraduate degree. He is also an active volunteer with the CALS academic honors fraternity, Alpha Zeta. The fraternity’s vision is to have “a global network of diverse agricultural and natural resources professionals recognizing, developing and promoting leaders with common values and integrity.”
Thomas says, “Every year our organization sends a group to Key West to work with NOAA on their ‘alternative spring break’ program.” This program involves work like beach cleanups and exploring the different habitats around the lower Keys with NOAA officials. He adds, “I had such a positive experience with this program that I was prompted to change majors into Marine Science. I highly encourage contacting the Key West office to determine volunteering options for your organization.” He encourages those who are interested in becoming actively involved with Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to check out the link below.
