2021 Virtual Farm Tour and Video Scavenger Hunt

What is Farm Tour?

Every year, Seminole County hosts a big event called Farm Tour. This is usually a fun-filled day where people get the chance to learn about agriculture by visiting local farms in the area! Why do we want to learn about agriculture? Well for one, the farms are what produces our food. Today, we live in an increasingly urbanized world and this is very evident here is Central Florida. Many people live in cities and there are fewer farms close to where most people live. Although we may not see these farms on the day to day, they are incredibly important to our food supply!

Our last Farm Tour was hosted in 2019 where participants visited several local farms including Dutch Mill Nurseries, Morris Family Farms, Yarbrough Ranch and more. Last year was a tough year for everyone, including our farmers! For this reason and safety concerns, we didn’t have a Farm Tour in 2020. A year after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still taking all precautions to keep everyone safe. Here we are in 2021 back with Farm Tour, hosting our first ever Virtual Farm Tour!

2021 Virtual Farm Tour Scavenger Hunt

Although we can’t interact face to face like a traditional Farm Tour, we want to bring you all out (virtually, of course!) to learn about local agriculture in Seminole County. The farmers, Seminole County Government TV, and UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County have been hard at work! We have put together some short videos about local agricultural.

To keep the fun going of our traditional Farm Tour, we have created a scavenger hunt in the videos! In each video you will find a key word hidden somewhere during the video (Hint: the keyword will pop up near the bottom of the screen during the video). If you collect at least 4 out of 6 keywords, you might be able to win some cool stuff.

How do you participate?
  1. Watch all six of our 2021 Virtual Farm Tour videos (links below).
  2. Collect at least 4 out of 6 keywords hidden in the videos. Each video has one keyword.
  3. Fill out this quick survey. One question will ask you to type in at least 4 keywords collected from watching the videos. The survey will close on May 16th, 2021 at 11:59PM. Randomly selected participants will be contacted after May 17th with information on how to pick up their goodies from the UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County office in Sanford, FL.
What stuff can you get by participating?

By participating in our Virtual Farm Tour scavenger hunt survey, you have the chance to score cool free stuff! Three randomly selected participants will receive a basket full of local Florida products and other goodies. These baskets were put together with donations from the Seminole County Farm Bureau, and Farm Credit of Central Florida. Ten randomly selected participants will receive an at-home hydroponics kit with instructions on how to try out growing food at home. Another ten randomly selected participants will receive a compost bin with information on how to recycle organic waste from yard waste to fruit/vegetable scraps.
