Master gardeners help during COVID-19
UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County honors three Master Gardener Volunteers for their efforts during COVID-19.
Normally, Extension Master Gardener Volunteers staff a customer service desk at the Twin Lakes Park office and assist Sarasota County residents with plant and landscape questions.
With COVID-19, Extension altered how we service the public. Much of what we do now is in a virtual environment.
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Master Gardener Volunteer Liz Greene stepped up and started answering plant and landscape questions from Sarasota County residents virtually. A massive task for one person, it became apparent that other Master Gardener Volunteers were needed to help.
Enter Debra Bryant and Dennis Heidenis. They teamed up with Liz, and the trio now answers a wide variety of plant and landscape questions through email.
Extension staff typically selects individuals for volunteer of the month. But during the difficult last few months, Liz, Debra and Dennis have gone above and beyond to assist Sarasota County residents.
As many have turned to gardening to relieve stress during COVID-19, this talented trio of volunteers has been available to help Sarasota residents keep their plants thriving.
The Extension staff thank Liz, Debra and Dennis!
