Stay Connected During Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is here and it’s important to keep you and your family informed before, during, and after a storm. First and foremost, make sure you and your family have a disaster plan before the next storm threatens. Developing a disaster supply kit with enough water, non-perishable food, and other supplies for all of your loved ones is another vital step. For more information on family disaster plans and supply kits, reference UF/IFAS Disaster Preparation and Recovery site where you can access this video and many other resources. You can also use Pinellas County’s Pledge to Plan to develop a plan.

As the storm approaches, you will want to make sure you have all the vital information you need. A critical decision you may face is whether to shelter in place or evacuate before the storm comes. How can you decide? Start by knowing your zone and where the closest shelters are and be sure to consider your pets when deciding on an appropriate plan. You can pre-register for a pet friendly shelter. For more information on all the ways you can keep yourself updated on approaching storms, use this factsheet to help guide you on deciding which channels are the most appropriate for you and your family including social media feeds and direct messages through Alert Pinellas.

Get ready, stay ready, and be safe this hurricane season.
