Blood Pressure Learning Opportunities

Did you know that May is Blood Pressure Awareness month? Did you know that nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure? Do what you can to avoid this chronic disease by learning more about blood pressure through UF Extension programming this month. Here is what’s on the calendar for the month of May:

  • May 1st from 12pm to 1pm at the Department of Health in Dade City, located at 13941 15th Street, Dade City, FL 33525. This “lunch and learn” thirty-to-sixty-minute session is free to attend. Please bring your lunch and reserve your spot on Event Brite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/5-1-18-lunch-learn-all-about-hypertension-tickets-43411484920?aff=es2
  • May 2nd from 12pm to 1pm at the Department of Health in New Port Richey, located at 10841 Little Road, New Port Richey, FL 34654. This is also a free lunch and learn presentation, and will run for thirty to sixty minutes. You can reserve your spot on Event Brite here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/5-2-18-lunch-and-learn-all-about-hypertension-tickets-43411120831?aff=es2. Don’t forget to pack your lunch!
  • May 22nd to July 10th (8 week series) at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills at the Creation Wellness Center (located at 38233 Daughtery Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33541). Through UF Extension and the Food is Medicine program, this eight week program will be held on Tuesdays from 2pm to 3pm and $10 produce vouchers will be given each time! The lessons are free thanks to the Florida Hospital sponsorship. Each week will focus on a different topic, such as diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors that you control to help reduce your risks for hypertension and the conditions brought on by hypertension: stroke and heart disease. To register, please call Florida Hospital at 813-779-6476.

Space is limited for all three events. Please note: the May 1st and May 2nd presentations are the same.

If you have any questions about these one-time presentations or the 8-week program, please contact the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Shari Bresin, at 352-518-0481 or at sbresin@ufl.edu.
