All Club Meetings: Clubs are now allowed to meet here at the extension office with groups of 10 or less. if you have more members at your meetings we can send a request to have occupancy limits adjusted. all Covid guidelines will still be met and masks will be required.

*4-H COUNTRY CLUB IS BACK!*

WE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME BACK MISTY SMITH AS OUR NEW ADULT VOLUNTEER FOR OUR 4-H COUNTRY CLUB!

FOR THOSE THAT DON’T ALREADY KNOW, COUNTRY CLUB IS OUR FUN AND EXCITING LIVESTOCK CLUB. IN THIS CLUB OUR YOUTH WILL LEARN HOW TO RAISE, HANDLE, FEED AND SHOW LIVESTOCK. FROM CHICS & HOGS TO RABBITS, IF YOU ARE INTO LIVESTOCK OR JUST ENJOY FARM ANIMALS IN GENERAL THIS THE CLUB FOR YOU!

THE COUNTRY CLUB WILL BE MEETING THE 4TH MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH STARTING MONDAY MARCH 22ND AT THE OKALOOSA COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE AT 6PM.

FLORIDA 4-H NATURE POETRY CONTEST: THIS IS A CHANCE FOR OUR MEMBERS TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR CREATIVE WRITING TALENTS! MEMBERS WILL COMPOSE AND CREATE THEIR OWN POEM ABOUT FLORIDA’S NATURAL WORLD AND ANYTHING THAT PERSONALLY ENGAGES THEM WITH NATURE. ALL STYLES OF POEMS ARE WELCOME. ENTRIES ARE DUE BY MARCH 1ST. PLEASE CONTACT AMY LEATH FOR REGISTRATION AND MORE INFORMATION! AMLEATH@UFL.EDU

4-H MEAT JUDGING CONTEST: YOUTH IN MEAT JUDGING NOT ONLY EVALUATE AND COMPARE BEEF, PORK AND LAMB CARCASSES AS WELL AS OTHER WHOLESALE CUTS, BUT ALSO LEARN RETAIL CUT IDENTIFICATION AND FACTORS AFFECTING MEAT QUALITY. 4-H MEMBERS WILL IDENTIFY RETAIL CUTS, NAMES, AND COOKING METHODS AND WILL RANK EIGHT PLACING CLASSES. YOUTH WILL GIVE TWO SETS OF REASONS ON PLACING THE CLASSES THAT THEY HAVE RANKED. THIS PROJECT AREA HELPS OUR YOUTH IN DECISION MAKING, COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE. IT ALSO PROVIDES PRACTICAL SKILLS THEY CAN USE EVERY TIME THEY VISIT THE GROCERY STORE OR BUTCHER SHOP BY LEARNING HOW TO EXAMINE A CUT OF MEAT AND DETERMINE WHICH WILL BE THE HIGHEST QUALITY & FLAVOR.

4-H FOREST ECOLOGY: A SHORTENED VERSION OF THE 4-H FOREST ECOLOGY CONTEST WILL BE OFFERED ONLINE THIS SPRING ON APRIL 17-18. YOUTH CAN USE THE WEBSITE TO LEARN TO IDENTIFY TREES, FOREST INSECTS AND DISEASES AND TOPOGRAPHIC MAP SYMBOLS. THEY WILL ALSO USE THE ONLINE STORIES AND TEXT TO PREPARE FOR ANSWERING MULTIPLECHOICE QUESTIONS ABOUT FOREST ECOSYSTEMS & FOREST MANAGEMENT. YOUTH MUST REGISTER THROUGH 4-H ONLINE. REGISTRATION IS OPEN FROM MARCH 1ST TO APRIL 1ST.

  • SEVERAL STUDY SESSIONS WILL BE OFFERED LIVE AND WILL BE RECORDED FROM FEB 15 TO MARCH 15 AT 4:00 PM. DETAILS WILL BE POSTED ON THE CONTEST WEBSITE.
    • THE ONLINE CONTEST WILL BE OPEN SATURDAY, APRIL 17 AT 7:00 M. THROUGH SUNDAY, APRIL 18 AT 1:00 P.M. THE WEBSITE LINK AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS WILL BE

SENT TO THOSE WHO REGISTER.

  • THE SENIOR QUIZ BOWL WILL BE HELD LIVE SATURDAY, APRIL 17 STARTING AT 2:00

P.M. ON ZOOM. PARTICIPATING SENIOR TEAMS WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR A 15-MINUTE TIME SLOT.

• THE AWARDS CEREMONY WILL BE SUNDAY, APRIL 18 AT 4:00 P.M. ON ZOOM AND A RECORDING WILL BE POSTED
