Upcoming Lawn & Gardening Events in Northwest Florida

Many people become frustrated with their lawns here in Florida. Our climate, sandy soils and pest problems are unique compared to most areas of the U.S. Most people follow incorrect lawn care practices in Florida. As a result, they waste money, water, fertilizer and end up with a disappointing lawn.

To address some of the frustration with growing a Florida lawn, I’ll provide a seminar on Lawn Care in Northwest Florida on Tuesday, April 4.

This free seminar begins at 10:30 a.m. with coffee and cookies served starting at 10 a.m. at the Crestview Public Library. The library is located at 1445 Commerce Drive (behind the Post Office).

Call the library at (850) 682-4432 or the Okaloosa County Extension Office at (850) 689-5850 for more information on this April 4th First Tuesday Talk at the Crestview Library.

The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Milton Campus and Pensacola State College are sponsoring the Spring Festival of Flowers.

This three day event will be held at the UF/IFAS and Pensacola State College Milton Campus, 5988 Highway 90, Building 4900 in Milton, Florida, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 9.

The festival will feature arts and crafts, plants, flowers and herbs, garden supplies, locally grown vegetables, and food and music.

Educational booths will feature UF/IFAS Extension agents and Master Gardeners answering questions about lawns, landscapes and gardens, eclectic gardening, good bugs and bad bugs, sprinklers and air layering demonstrations, and experts offering advice and hands-on demonstrations on wildlife for the backyard.

The Milton Garden Club will sponsor a flower show; in addition, the festival features plant nurseries and a UF student-club plant sale. The student club will feature a variety of plants such as ‘Hallmark’ Bulbine, ‘Bolivian Sunset’ Gloxinia and ‘Indigo Spires’ Salvia.

Come and enjoy the Spring Festival of Flowers, have your gardening questions answered, enjoy some great food, seminars and music and maybe purchase some new arts, crafts or plants for your landscape.
