Tropical Storm Laura

Dear UF/IFAS Family,

The National Hurricane Center has reported that Tropical Storm Laura is projected to impact Florida.

As we monitor the progression of Laura, I ask all of us to stay alert for emergency messages regarding evacuations, shelter locations and relevant instructions. The safety of all UF/IFAS and Extension personnel is of the greatest importance.

Now is the time to make sure you are prepared. Please review and share resources available to help you, your family and those we serve prepare for disasters. To limit the spread of COVID-19, remember to factor social distancing and proper PPE into your emergency planning.

Angie Lindsey is our point-of-contact with the Florida Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN). She will continue to provide regular updates and links to useful resources to information about disaster preparedness and recovery. I urge you to visit and bookmark the Florida EDEN website.

UF/IFAS employees should review the Disaster Preparedness resources available on the UF/IFAS Extension Administration website. IFAS Communications has prepared this factsheet on tips for communicating about hurricanes.

For external communications, please direct clients and stakeholders to the UF/IFAS Disaster Preparation & Recovery website.

Both of these websites will be updated with new information and resources as those become available.

UF’s homepage will also display the latest storm updates.

You can also keep informed about hurricane response efforts by following UF/IFAS on social media. Use and look for tags @UFIFASNews on Facebook and @UF_IFAS on Twitter.

Be alert and stay safe!
