Media Alert: Flavors of Florida is April 9

Who: Florida’s best chefs will prepare foods that come from the breeding efforts of researchers at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. The chefs’ dishes are sure to please palates.

What: The fifth annual Flavors of Florida. UF/IFAS scientists toil for years in their labs and fields to enhance the foods we enjoy. Farmers then grow the improved crops that wind up as fruits, vegetables and meat in our meals. Top chefs from across Florida will prepare samples of these foods. UF/IFAS fresh Florida commodities include the tastiest tomatoes, citrus, strawberries and other fruits; fresh, crispy vegetables; tender beef and succulent seafood.

Flavors of Florida will also showcase ornamental plants. UF/IFAS research enhances our environment through various types of plants, ensuring flora that not only look and smell beautiful, but don’t use too much water or nutrients to grow. Each year, Flavors of Florida features food, beverages and plants featuring products emanating from UF/IFAS research and breeding programs.

UF and community leaders will attend the event, along with registered guests, who will sample the fine flavors that UF/IFAS researchers have developed.

When:

6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, April 9.

Where:

The Champions Club at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
