UF/IFAS facilities damage assessment

 

Here is a brief assessment of UF/IFAS facilities statewide as of Sept. 12.

  • UF/IFAS Tropical REC, Homestead – GH, SH damage. Trees down and debris. Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Southwest REC, Immokalee – major GH damage, new GH damage, some soffit, shingle and flooding. Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Everglades REC, Belle Glade – GH, SH damage. Roof tiles missing, roof leaks and generator failed to start. Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Ft. Lauderdale REC – roof leaks, flooding in chemical lab, exhaust fan issue to fume hood, exterior flooding, entrance gates have damage and not operational. Some GH damage. Power is on.
  • UF/IFAS Indian River REC, Ft. Pierce – flooding outside, none inside. One GH roof gone. Aquaculture internet antenna missing. Citrus groves flooded. Power is on.
  • UF/IFAS Mid-Florida REC, Apopka – minor damage to several GH’s. Debris clean up. Old Apopka without power. Main buildings and most GH have power.
  • UF/IFAS Citrus REC, Lake Alfred – screen house damage, lots of debris. Water intrusion. Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Gulf Coast REC, Balm- hoop houses destroyed, some debris, Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory, Ruskin- some GH damage.Never lost power.
  • UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station, Cedar Key – nothing! No power.
  • UF/IFAS North Florida REC, Quincy- two GH’s damaged
  • UF/IFAS Suwanne Valley Agricultural Extension Center, Live Oak – minor roof damage, water intrusion in chemical storage, pole barn curtain damage,. Power out.
  • UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center – downed trees, wide spread flooding, GH damage, minor building damage.
  • UF/IFAS Range Cattle REC, Ona – debris, minor issues. Power out. Need generator for well water and septic lift station.
  • UF/IFAS Plant Science Research and Education Unit, Citra – nothing. No power
  • Microbiology – all good, one wet spot. Power on.
  • Fifield Area – power was out. Several issues at 1222 quarantine. Will address tomorrow. Quarantine GH in grove missing panels.
  • Animal Science – no power until 5 p.m. Number of issues to resolve after that. Placed generators for -80’s. Major flooding at Horse Teaching Unit, in t barn and storage barn. Horse Research Unit okay. Dairy has generator issues and extremely wet. No power. Swine Unit flooding. Beef Research Unit, can you say wet, muck….
  • Bee Unit – trees down on power lines that took out animal science. Back up at 5 p.m.
