GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Staff with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences were among the winners of this year’s Prudential Financial Davis Productivity Awards.

The awards luncheon, held in June at the Straughn IFAS Extension Professional Development Center honored staff who have significantly increased productivity in their workplace. The awards program is a joint effort between Florida TaxWatch, the Florida Council of 100 and the State of Florida.

The two winners from UF/IFAS, out of the four recipients this year, were Maria Bernal, office manager with the Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead, and the IFAS Shared Services team.

Bernal received the award for developing ways to reduce expenditures and streamline processes to achieve efficiencies and accuracy. The Shared Services team received the honor for developing and implementing the IFAS Shared Services Center that provides business support to IFAS while reducing duplicated effort.

“I feel very privileged and honored not only for having the opportunity of working for UF, but also for winning this award,” Bernal said. “I really try to go the extra mile to provide excellent customer satisfaction to internal as well as external customers, and winning this award confirmed that I am moving in the right direction, which is of great satisfaction to me.”

Jo Ann Davis, coordinator with IFAS Shared Services, said she’s very proud of the team’s recognition.

“This was a huge win not only for IFAS but also for the team of employees who spent countless hours developing a model, testing systems, writing templates and instruction guides,” Davis said. “The IFAS team developed a system for financial, human resource, and sponsored research transactions and processes that is being modeled elsewhere.”

The IFAS Shared Services team members honored are Laurie Bell, Robin Barber, Melanie Carter, Tina Craig, Paula Cunningham, Elisa DuVall, Melanie Hill, Vicki Jenkins, Betsy Lindsey, Kim Lottinville, Robert Morris, An Nguyen, Cindy Olejownik, Candace Palmer, Lacey Rhea, Ellen Vaughan and Linda Cowart.
