GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences faculty members have been included in a list of the top 25 women professors in Florida.

Samira Daroub, a professor with the soil and water science department who’s based at the UF/IFAS Everglades Research and Education Center in Belle Glade, and Ann Wilkie, a research professor in the department who’s based in Gainesville, received the recognition on the list that appeared in April.

It can be viewed here: http://onlineschoolsflorida.com/top-college-professors-in-florida/women/.

The list’s goal is to highlight post-secondary educators who have been recognized recently for excellence in research or in the classroom, or for projects on campus or in the community, according to the website hosting the list, OnlineSchoolsFlorida.com.

Daroub said she is honored to receive the acknowledgement and that it was unexpected.

“It is definitely gratifying to be recognized in our jobs as educators,” Daroub said. “I am sure it was not an easy task for them as there are a lot of women professors worthy of this recognition.”

Wilkie was also pleased with earning a place on the list.

“It’s always nice to be recognized for one’s efforts,” she said.

Daroub was chosen for her recent work that includes co-authoring the study “Best Management Practices and Long-Term Water Quality Trends in the Everglades Agricultural Area,” which appeared in the journal Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, and for receiving the 2012 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Teacher Fellow Award.

Wilkie was chosen for her significant achievements in the efficient utilization of energy, energy conservation, energy education and renewable energy in the State of Florida. Her research focus is bioenergy and sustainable technology, with particular emphasis on anaerobic processes, algae, and biomass to biofuel conversion.
