Cedar Key Bird Rescue Hotline
Cedar Key Bird Rescue (CKBR) was founded in August 2016 by the Cedar Keys Audubon with support from several organizations. Supporters include the UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station, Florida Sea Grant, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and Audubon Florida. This group of intrepid volunteers formed CKBR in response to the high number of bird entanglements in Cedar Key. The Cedar Key area is a bird entanglement hotspot identified by FWC and a regional UF survey. While volunteers respond to all kinds of injured birds, the focus of the program is to address seabird entanglement and injury caused by interactions with fishing tackle and fish carcasses.
New hotline number
To simplify logistics for the rescue program, we established a hotilne number to call for rescue assistance. The new Cedar Key Bird Rescue phone number is 352-477-0057.
So far in 2019, volunteers have responded to 44 local bird rescue situations. Many of these calls were for entangled pelicans but there were other types of injuries and birds as well.
