Farm City Week 2018

The Manatee County Farm City Week is a time to recognize and celebrate the importance of relationships between farmers, consumers, community leaders and everyone in between who contributes to our safe, abundant food supply.
Farm City Week activities involve educational programming to build interdependence between rural and urban citizens. For more information on events please click links or call numbers below or contact the Manatee County UF/IFAS Extension office at (941) 722-4524.

11/7-Edible Ag at the Manatee County Agricultural Museum: Sample Manatee County’s agricultural products alongside the museum’s exhibits including a token for a special homegrown brew from Darwin Brewing Company. 6 pm-8:30 pm https://www.eventbrite.com/e/edible-ag-tickets-49607306790 Contact 721-2034.

11/8Soil Speech Contest for Grades 6 – 12 Sponsored by MRSWCD. Contestants must pre-register. To be conducted in the Kendrick Auditorium at 6 pm, open to the public contact Gail Somodi at 444-3142.

11/9- Farm City Week Bus Tour: Tour sites include: Russ Citrus Grove, Watercress Farms, Big Red Cattle, and DiMare Farms. Lunch at Myakka Community Park. Cost $55 per participant which includes the bus, lunch, snacks and gratuity …. must have reservation call Angie at 722-4524 ext. 1823.

11/10-Bradenton Farmer’s Market: Farm City Week celebration, open 9 am-2 pm. 4-H and FFA will be participating in activities. A piece of farm equipment will be on display. http://www.realizebradenton.com/about_the_market

11/11-Veteran’s Day Parade: Program begins at 11 am at Sutton and Lamb Parks in Palmetto. Parade features a Farm City Week float with agricultural producers and committee members waving gracefully and throwing pencils to the crowd! 11/13-Kiwanis Luncheon: Celebrates Farm City Week and reveals the 2018 Agriculturalist of the Year. UF/IFAS Extension Dean, Dr. Nick Place, will be the keynote speaker. Open only to Kiwanis members and Farm City Week Committee.

11/14-Leadership Manatee Agricultural Tour: Participants of the 2018 Leadership Manatee Program visit local farms by bus. The group is greeted by an agricultural panel to discuss hot topics in agriculture at lunch.

11/15-Ag Venture: Over 1000 3rd graders visit the Mosaic Arena on the Manatee County Fairground to learn about agriculture through hands on experiences. Closed to public. Contact Diana Smith 722-4524 ext. 1844.

11/16Hall of Fame Luncheon: A luncheon is held at the Woman’s Club of Palmetto to recognize the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee. Seats are no longer available. Contact Gail Somodi at 444-3142.

11/17-Beef Workshop and Prospect Show: at the Mosaic Arena on the Manatee County Fairground, youth showing cattle in the county fair participate in hands-on workshops and after lunch show their animals for judging…open to public for viewing only. Contact Christa Kirby 722-4524 ext. 1824.
