Home and Community Educators

The Jefferson County Home and Community Educators (HCE) had a busy and productive year. We started the year by planting seeds for the Jefferson County Elementary students’ rise-bed gardens.

We attended the state Home and Community Educators conference in Ocala. We saw old friends and met new friends. It was meetings…. meetings and fun… fun, fun. It was my first state meeting but for many members it was their 50th plus state meeting. Several speakers presented updated information from health issues to leisure time information. We also attended the District II meeting in Perry.

The monthly meetings consisted of planning projects to make Christmas decorations. Twenty pillow cases were made for children in the cancer ward of Tallahassee Regional Hospital. The club delivered the pillow cases in May and received a tour of the ward. The club also made lap robes for seniors in the nursing homes.

We added two new members this year. We had two birthday celebrations at the president’s house. It was delicious food and great company. If you are interested in joining Home and Community Educators, we will meet again on August 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson County Extension Office.
