Jackson 4-H Updates  – March 29, 2018

There are lots of things going on in 4-H!

Global Youth Service Day (April 20-22)

Jackson 4-H will join with other counties in our District on April 21st  during the District II 4-H Showcase to participate in Global Youth Science Day!

We will be preparing Disaster Preparedness bags similar to the “bug out” bags from Teen Retreat. This project can double as your state service project and youth that turn in three or more project report forms will be acknowledged at 4-H U.  These projects can also qualify for the True Leaders in Service campaign through National Council.

We need to collect PERSONAL HYGIENE items to be put into the bags.  Please start collecting materials and let your 4-H Agent know what you have and how much, by April 16th.

 True Leaders in Service

True Leaders in Service Initiative This is a reminder that the Second Annual True Leaders in Service Initiative is live online! Your 4-H Members can register their service projects throughout the month of April 2018. The Month of Service will culminate with the National 4-H Day of Service on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Registration, planning and promotional resources are available online. Go to https://4-h.org/get-involved/true-leaders-inservice/ for more information.

While all types of service projects are welcome in the True Leaders in Service Initiative, in Florida, we are encouraging youth to complete a Project LIFE service project.  http://florida4h.org/programs/ projectlifeguidebook.pdf

Two service projects that your youth may find interesting are the Tree Planting Project and the Water Challenge.

Raise Your Hand

In 4-H, we believe in the power of America’s youth to succeed in life; however, only one in three youth say they have the skills they need to handle what life throws their way. That’s why 4-H created “Raise Your Hand.” A nationwide call to action for alumni and friends to “Raise Your Hand” to empower our nation’s youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The three states with the most hands raised will win $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000! Stay tuned for surprise incentives along the way. State 4-H programs will also receive the contact information of those who vote for their state so that they can be further engaged as friends of 4-H locally. Help us grow the next generation of True Leaders—because every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. APRIL 1 – MAY 15, 2018

Engage 4-H alumni and friends to spread the word and help us grow even more #TrueLeaders through 4-H. Webinar presentation recorded on Thursday, February 22 explains more about this years’ campaign. Key notes of change: The 2018 campaign is only six weeks in length, April 1- May 15. All of the data collected in 2017 is being retained; however all states will begin with a clean, even slate in the voting arena. The leadership board will be updated weekly until the last two weeks where it will be updated every other day. Each voter will have the opportunity to select the state they wish to vote for. More information will be coming out in the coming days.
