Jackson 4-H Heads to State Poultry Judging Contest
Once again, members of the Jackson County 4-H Poultry Judging Teams made the trip to Gainesville on June 2nd and 3rd to compete in the State Poultry Judging Competition.
Here’s how they fared:
Junior Team One – Placed 3rd overall. Members: Hayden Warden, Benjamin Roach, Whitnie Yoder, and Lila Caraway.
Junior Team Two – Placed 7th overall. Members: Nathan Ziglar, Reagan Roach and Dylan Ziglar.
Junior Team Three – Placed 9th overall. Members: Lenzie Sims, Maycee Claire Griffin and Valerie Yoder.
Senior Team – Placed 2nd overall. Members: Morgan Seale (6th high individual) Anslie Yoder (9th high individual) and Emma Caraway (11th high individual).
These youth have worked incredibly hard to make it to this level. The Jackson County 4-H Youth Development program is proud and honored to have hard working volunteers such as their Coach Stacey Warden, and dedicated parents who support these youth and the programs they participate in.
Through 4-H, youth learn about practical problems they will face in life and acquire the skills needed to solve them. 4-H membership is open to boys and girls ages 5-18 without regard to sex, disability, race, nationality, or ethnicity.
According to the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development conducted by Tufts University young people in 4-H:
- Two times as likely to go to college
- Two times as likely to pursue careers in science
- More likely to make healthier choices, be physically active and avoid risky behavior
- Three times as likely to give back to their communities
The knowledge and skills gained through participation in 4-H programs will help develop these young people into responsible and self-sufficient members of our society. I encourage everyone to consider becoming a part of the programs offered in Jackson County 4-H either as a youth member, a volunteer, or as a financial supporter.
