Children can easily become strangled if they become entangled in the unsafe window blind cords. After years of under-reporting and outcries from families that have experienced an injury or death of a child due to window blinds, you can now receive a FREE retrofit kit. Yes, FREE! The Window Covering Safety Council urges you to learn how to keep your children safe. There is a simple tool to help you determine if your window coverings are child safe. There are also basic window cord safety guides.

Commitments have been made by Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, and the Home Depot to cease the sale of corded window blinds by the end of 2018. Target and IKEA have already stopped selling corded blinds. Thankfully, retailers are answering the call for safety, and manufacturers have stepped up with cordless blind options.

It’s your turn now. Take some time to look at your window coverings and inspect them for safety. Make any necessary changes. A few minutes could save a life!
