UF/IFAS Extension Partners with Veterans Program

Maj. Wilford Greigo has served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer. As he was nearing the end of his military Service, Greigo was looking for a career move in his transition to civilian life. He turned to the U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge Program which helps military members discover opportunities to participate in training and development with industry and employers who are seeking a high-quality, skilled labor force. Maj. Greigo speaks highly of the program:

“I think it’s the right thing to do for somebody who’s spent either three or thirty years in the military. It’ll help them transition from any part of the military. You’re gonna find something that’s right for you and there’s a good fit for the program.”

Maj. Greigo is participating with the SkillBridge program at the UF/IFAS North Florida Research & Education Center – Suwannee Valley near Live Oak. He is working under the tutelage of De Broughton, Regional Specialized Extension Agent in Row Crops at the Center. Broughton is equally impressed with the SkillBridge Program and feels the SkillBridge Program and UF/IFAS Extension are a good fit, “I think UF/IFAS is a the perfect organization to teach the participants that are coming into this program because we’re so diverse and we offer so much.”

Greigo has worked in almost every facet of the Center’s agricultural efforts and welcomes any task directed his way, “From getting on the tractor, to getting out there and picking corn, getting out there and and bagging peanuts on the back of a peanut wagon. If anybody knows me, I’m not afraid of getting in there and rolling up my sleeves and helping out wherever wherever it is.”

As we celebrate Veterans Day, UF/IFAS would like to salute all Veterans for their service to our country.
