What Highlands County Extension is Doing to Help

Highlands County Extension Ag Safety Training day is December 19, 2017. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the class begins at 8:00 a.m. Extension Agents from around the state will provide the training seminars. Attendees may choose English or Spanish options for the courses. All attendees will participate in the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) handler training that is required annually. In addition, Highlands Soil and Water Conservation is sponsoring lunch at the end of the seminar.

Highlands County Extension is bringing Ag safety training to Highlands County on one day at one time in one location. Therefore, producers will fulfill regulatory obligations without having to spend a lot of money and time away from the farm. This Ag Safety Event will become an annual event held each December to maintain compliance for producers. After the training each attendee will be mailed a certificate of completion.

Why is this training important?

Farmers today are in a difficult spot. Less farm land exists to farm on. Fewer farmers are farming. There are more legal & regulatory requirements to farm. It is difficult to keep up with rule changes. Again, this event is a one-stop-shop and should help the farmer and his workers not only meet the legal & regulatory requirements but farm safer and be more productive.
