“Can Anyone Out There Help Me?”

UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Extension Master Gardeners provide University of Florida research based horticulture options, multiply outreach of UF/IFAS Extension offices, saving taxpayer dollars and fill a gap in services.

Nature Coast Master Gardeners (NCMG) offer horticulture options based on Florida Friendly Landscaping (FFL) principles. When implemented properly, FFL principles will result in reduced dependence on pesticide, reduction in outdoor water use and efficient use of fertilizer. Demonstrating, explaining and inspiring residents to adopted FFL principles will help keep our communities a good place in which to live. We appreciate and value their contributions.

NCMG’s are responsive, enthusiastic and serve with nobility of purpose. They staff UF/IFAS Extension horticulture booth at area festivals, speaking with hundreds of residents who have garden and landscape questions. NCMG’s maintain public demonstration gardens, assist Division of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Florida Museum with the Montbrook Fossil Dig, divide and transplant plant material with UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station, Cedar Key during habitat restoration and living shoreline project, help educate and control invasive plant species and work behind the scenes to support Extension program delivery. In 2019, NCMG’s met face-to-face with hundreds of individuals and families. They self-reported 2,508 hours of volunteer service valued at $52,668!
