Tri-Eagle Sales Partners with UF/IFAS Extension in Gadsden County for Wellness Initiative
Gardening and Stress Management for Local Businesses

Midway, FL – Tri-Eagle Sales and the UF/IFAS Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences and the Master Gardener Programs have partnered to create an employee garden at the Midway office, as part of Tri-Eagle Sales’ company wellness initiatives.

Many businesses across the country are focusing on company wellness to improve physical, mental, and financial well-being of their employees. Gardening is a new initiative within such programs. Gardening is known to have a positive impact on stress as well as mood. Being in touch with nature and the great outdoors helps reduce stress. In these established spaces, employees can relax by getting their hands dirty. “Vegetable gardening offers sunshine, exercise, mental therapy, fresh vegetables, and economic savings. Being outside in the fresh air promotes a sense of well-being, mental focus. It can even help us sleep better at night,” says Laurie Osgood, UF/IFAS Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent for Gadsden County. Fresh vegetables contain important nutrients, including fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Plus, homegrown produce simply tastes better.

Gessele Rodriguez, Human Resource Manager for Tri-Eagle Sales, notes, “Some of our employees don’t have the space, the experience, or time to start their own gardens. The vegetables that our garden produces are offered to our staff, which can be a big savings for employees who would otherwise be spending a lot at the grocery store for organic produce.”

North Florida’s summer sun can limit a garden’s vegetable production, but the employee garden is still going strong. September will be the ideal time to start planting cooler-season favorites such as beets, onions, radishes, kale, cabbage, lettuce, and mustard greens. Therefore, in September, Tri-Eagle Sales and The Gadsden County’s UF/IFAS Extension’s Master Gardeners will prepare the garden for fall and winter plants.
