Green Industry BMP Training and Fertilizer Applicator Licensing

 

Florida-Friendly Green Industries BMP Certificate
Educational Program with a focus on fertilizer and water

The Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) educational program helps green industry employees understand how fertilizer affects water quality. This Florida-Friendly program was developed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), UF/IFAS, industry representatives, and others. Commercial lawn-care and landscape industry professionals learn science-based practices such as proper fertilizer use to reduce risk of water pollution.

Columbia County requires by law that everyone who applies fertilizer commercially for clients must attend this 6-hour training and receive a certificate. Also, Institutional applicators must receive this training and certification.
Institutional applicators include anyone (whether owner, manager, employee) who applies fertilizer to:

Limited Commercial Fertilizer Applicators License

As of January 1, 2014, anyone commercially applying fertilizer to lawns or ornamental landscapes for a client must have the fertilizer license. This license is available from FDACS after the 6-hour GI-BMP training has been taken.
