Camping season is almost here

Why is the 4-H camping program so important?

4-H camps provide young people with hands-on learning opportunities that encourage life skills development which enhance a child’s sense of belonging, independence, mastery and generosity. 4-H camps incorporate trained and caring adults as well as reliable resources and programs to aid in creating a quality “learn by doing” experience for the young participants. Depending on the camp the child will be able to gain project specific knowledge, an appreciation for trying new things, as well as an appreciation for nature and healthy choices. Campers will also meet new people and develop friendships with children from all walks of life.

There are two types of camps that children can attend in 4-H, overnight camps or day camps.

• Overnight camps can last two days and one night or five days and four nights. Children who attend
these camps will by housed with children of similar age and by gender.
Cloverbuds are not generally permitted to stay over night.

• Day camps can last one to five days and are carried out during the day. These camps can last from 2 hours to 8 hours, depending on the camp.
