Smithfield Hog Production Summer Internship North Carolina

Smithfield Hog Production Division is offering a swine production summer internship for Animal Science undergraduate or recently graduated students interested in applied swine production. The overall goal of our internship program is to provide exposure to all aspects of pork production. After completing the internship, interns should better understand the scope of modern agribusiness, as well as to be able to evaluate Smithfield as a potential employer after graduation. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the farms daily operation and will participate hands-on in most farm tasks. Common traits of successful interns are a thirst of knowledge, a positive attitude and a desire to continuously improve.

The intern will be responsible for assisting in all farm activities as required at Smithfield HPD. This will involve spending time on a sow farm. The student will be exposed to other aspects of Smithfield HPD, such as the packing plant, support operations, veterinary services and other swine production operations. At the end of the program the student will be required to give a presentation to Smithfield HPD.

Junior or Senior preferred, must be pursuing an agriculture-related degree, willingness to work long hours,including weekends, great communication skills, works well with others, able to work outside, some manual labor required, one professional or academic reference required.
 This is a paid internship, and free housing will be provided as well as paid travel up to the location at Rose Hill, North Carolina.
